Xdinary Heroes Release IMPULSE, First Album as Five-Piece

JYP Entertainment band Xdinary Heroes are back with a new chapter. Their ninth mini album, IMPULSE , came out on October 12 at 6pm KST, which was 10am WAT. It is the band's first release as a five-piece. The line-up is now Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han and Jooyeon. The Asia Business Daily reports that Gunil left in August, and allkpop says the band was reorganised that month. An album about youth IMPULSE is built around the hopes and anxieties, desires and impulses of youth. "Whatever emotion comes your way, whether it is positive or negative, we hope you accept it as it is and do not deny your own feelings," the members said through their agency, as quoted by allkpop. They said they focused on bringing out each member's personality in both playing and vocals, and wanted a brighter mood than their previous album, DEAD AND. "Obsessed with Youth" The title track, "Obsessed with Youth", is about the longing and unstable emotions of youth. Asked what they felt most strongly while making it, the members described "a heart brimming with hope, with anxiety coexisting within it," according to The Asia Business Daily. "We, too, are going through youth, wavering between conflicting emotions just like in the title track, so we were able to immerse ourselves deeply in the process," they added. O.de explained that "Breathe in, Breathe out" was "originally a song with a very grand atmosphere, but we reinterpreted it with an acoustic arrangement." Gaon picked "u and me in arguments" for its raw band sound, while Jooyeon chose "Give Up The Ghost" as the song he most wants to play live, The Asia Business Daily reports. "We think the best way to express ourselves is to fully reveal the emotions we can experience only at this point in our lives, even if we are somewhat awkward," they told The Asia Business Daily. Lollapalooza still stands out Xdinary Heroes have played world tours, Lollapalooza Chicago and the Busan International Rock Festival, and opened for Muse at the British band's concert in Korea. They singled out Lollapalooza as especially meaningful. "It was our first major festival abroad and a stage we had dreamed of for a long time, so it meant a lot to us," they said. "It remains such a precious memory that we still wear our Lollapalooza T-shirts all the time." A busy day for K-pop IMPULSE lands in a crowded week. NiziU have just wrapped up promotions with a personal-best 226,532 first-week sales for Sour Grapes , and SF9 marked their tenth anniversary with a concert at KBS Arena . Rebuilding as five IMPULSE arrives six months after the band's previous release, News1 reports. It is also the first since leader and drummer Gunil left in August amid a personal controversy. JYP said at the time that, after thorough discussions, it had decided by mutual agreement to terminate his exclusive contract. With the comeback only two months away, the band brought in Choi Hyun-jin, drummer of the band Skizo, as a session musician from September. Ahead of release, each of the seven track previews was given a keyword: greed, desire, instinct, passion, longing, freedom and obsession. The band will also play a solo concert named after the album, IMPULSE, at Inspire Arena in Incheon from November 13 to 15. What's next The new line-up now takes IMPULSE into promotions, with "Obsessed with Youth" leading the way and Jooyeon already eyeing "Give Up The Ghost" for the stage.
