Trivium have confirmed the details of their 11th studio album. Crown In The Grave arrives on November 20 through Roadrunner Records, and the Florida band have shared its title track with a music video inspired by Japanese cinema. The album follows 2021's In The Court Of The Dragon and last year's EP Struck Dead . Kerrang! reports that the band first teased new music on stage at Download Festival this summer. Inspired by Kurosawa and Japanese horror Bassist Paolo Gregoletto says the band wanted the record to exist in its own world. "That began with the title track, inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood , and led us deeper into Japanese horror and cinema from the '50s, '60s, and '70s," he said. "That influence grew into this darker, ghostly atmosphere that became a set of guardrails for the music, lyrics, artwork, and overall identity of the record." He also explained the balance they were trying to strike. "When you get this far into a career, it's easy to rest on what you've already done, or to reinvent yourself just for the sake of it," he said. "With this record, we wanted to find the space between those two things." He added: "I think when you hear it, it'll somehow feel both new and like a return." Metal Lair reports that the title track video was directed by Pavel Trebukhin and draws on Japanese Noh theatre, set in a post-apocalyptic world. A new drummer and a new studio Crown In The Grave is Trivium's first album with drummer Alex Rudinger, formerly of Whitechapel. Louder reports that he replaced Alex Bent last year. It is also their first full-length album recorded at The Hangar, the band's own studio and rehearsal space in their hometown of Orlando. "We built our studio so we could give ourselves the time and space to figure out exactly what an eleventh Trivium record should be," Gregoletto said. Metal Lair adds that the band worked again with producer Josh Wilbur, with Jacob Hansen mixing. Louder calls them "Florida metalcore greats". A new drummer, a self-built studio and a concept rooted in Japanese film give this record a clear identity before anyone has heard it in full. Arena-sized dates across Europe also show the band's pull as a live act, at a time when touring numbers are under close watch and big arena runs like The Weeknd's European and UK tour set the pace. What's next Pre-orders are open through the band's official channels. The North American tour starts on November 5, two weeks before Crown In The Grave is released on November 20. Fans can expect more songs from the album before release day. Sources: Kerrang! | Louder (Metal Hammer) | Metal Lair
