Tate McRae Opens New Era With 'Housewife' on October 15

Tate McRae is starting a new era. The Calgary-born pop star releases "Housewife" on Thursday, October 15, 2026, her first official release of a new chapter she has been teasing for months, according to Billboard. She announced the single on Instagram on October 7 with the artwork and a simple caption: "Housewife. Out 10.15," followed by a diamond ring emoji, Billboard and Capital report. "A woman who can't be contained" McRae gave the first details on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the same night. "It's kind of about a woman who can't be contained," she said, as quoted by Billboard Canada. Asked whether she was "allowed to say anything" about the release, she said she was excited because "I haven't released [music] in a while." She revealed that the album art, and presumably the music video, were shot in the south of France, calling the experience "so magical and so fun." The artwork The cover shows McRae in a red bikini and sunglasses pushing a pram, or stroller, full of cash, according to Billboard and Capital. Billboard frames the shift playfully: McRae is moving "from the fast lane to something a little more domestic," a nod to her earlier hit "Sports Car." The Easter egg fans missed McRae joked on Fallon about her fans' detective skills. "We drop easter eggs all the time," she said, but "they get none of them. They'll always catch on to things that are completely wrong." One clue they missed, she said, was the word "housewife," which appeared on screen during her Lollapalooza set. "This was literally in my Lolla set, when the set started. And that was three months ago," she said, according to Billboard Canada. Billboard describes that August headline set in Chicago as built around the theme "The Anatomy of a Popstar," ending with McRae climbing into a bathtub of gold paint during "Sports Car" as fireworks went off. A word from Taylor Swift On Fallon, McRae recalled Taylor Swift saying "Tit for Tat" was the best song she had heard recently that she didn't write. "I had never talked to her and I didn't know that she knew my music, and it was such a cool day," McRae said. She also discussed her first fragrance, Tate 01, which she said she had worked on for a year. Capital quotes longtime collaborator Ryan Tedder, who said earlier this year: "The music is phenomenal... She's on another level of writing and inspiration." How the era was teased Capital notes that since wrapping the So Close to What era with the deluxe edition and the end of the Miss Possessive Tour in 2025, McRae kept a low profile outside festival appearances at Osheaga and Lollapalooza, while fans hunted for clues about her fourth album, which they call TM4. What's next "Housewife" arrives on October 15. Three days later, McRae performs at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Los Angeles alongside KATSEYE, Megan Thee Stallion and Megan Moroney, Billboard Canada reports. It streams live on YouTube at 7:30pm ET on October 18, which is 12:30am WAT on October 19. Capital suggests the show could host the song's live debut.
