Shatta Wale used his MoMoFest X ShattaFest homecoming show in the Volta Region on Saturday, October 3, 2026, to make a gesture few of his fans saw coming: he performed "Putuu", a hit by his long-time dancehall rival Stonebwoy, and told the crowd that nobody could stop him from loving or supporting the Bhim Nation star. The moment, reported by the Ghana News Agency, Pulse Ghana, MyJoyOnline and YEN.com.gh, came during a marathon set at the Youth Resource Centre. Pulse Ghana and YEN place the concert in Ho, the regional capital, while the GNA report was filed from Adaklu. Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, described the region as his "motherland" and said he had come to reconnect with fans and honour his roots, according to Pulse Ghana. "You Cannot Stop Me From Loving Stonebwoy" Before the song played, the dancehall star addressed the audience directly. "You cannot stop me from loving Stonebwoy, you can't stop me from supporting what Stonebwoy is doing," he said, as quoted by Pulse Ghana and YEN. "I don't have an enemy, I've given my life to Christ. I don't want to fight anybody." The GNA reported that he framed the performance as proof that musicians can celebrate one another instead of nursing hatred and rivalry. He urged young people in particular to set aside animosity and embrace love and unity so that everyone could succeed, and called on fans across the region to encourage one another rather than tear each other down. He also tied the message to regional pride. "When we talk about superstars from the Volta Region, we mention Edem, Stonebwoy and myself, Shatta Wale," he said, according to the GNA, adding that the achievements of the three artistes showed how much talent the region has contributed to Ghana and beyond. A Four-Hour Set and a Warm Response Reports describe a long and energetic night. The GNA said Shatta Wale took the stage at about 1am and performed for roughly four hours, running through a catalogue of his own hits before and after the Stonebwoy tribute. Thousands of fans sang and danced along to "Putuu", the agency reported. The event was organised by MobileMoney Fintech Ltd. and doubled as a brand activation for its MoMo services. It drew patrons from different parts of Ghana, according to the GNA and MyJoyOnline. YEN.com.gh also reported reaction from writer Dickson Boadi, who welcomed the gesture and urged both fan bases to keep competition respectful. "You can be proudly Shatta Movement and still respect Stonebwoy. You can be proudly BHIM Nation and still acknowledge Shatta Wale's contribution to Ghanaian music," he wrote, adding: "Let the music compete, let the fans celebrate, but let respect remain." The Weight of a Long Rivalry The significance of the moment comes from history. Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been at the centre of one of Ghanaian music's most closely followed rivalries for years, with fans split into the Shatta Movement and Bhim Nation camps. Pulse Ghana recalled that the relationship reached a low point at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, when both artistes and their entourages were involved in a confrontation at the ceremony. There have been softer moments too. Pulse Ghana noted that in 2017 Shatta Wale surprised Stonebwoy at the Ashaiman to the World concert, joining him on stage and embracing him. Shatta Wale has, on several occasions, referred to Stonebwoy as a brother, and in recent months he has made repeated public calls for unity among Ghanaian musicians, the outlet reported. Performing a rival's song at his own branded festival, in front of a home-region crowd, goes further than a passing comment in an interview. Whether it signals a lasting thaw will depend on what both camps do next; Stonebwoy had not publicly responded in the reports reviewed by Entzopedia at the time of writing. ShattaFest After London The Volta Region show also carried weight for the ShattaFest brand itself. Its UK edition, held alongside Ghana Party in the Park at Copthall Playing Fields in Barnet, north London, ended early on August 1, 2026. The Metropolitan Police said a small fire near the entrance forced the gates to close temporarily, and a crowd surged when they reopened. Police said 23 people received assistance from emergency services or the event medical team, and three were taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Shatta Wale's management said at the time that "nothing is more important than the safety and well-being" of patrons, Citi Newsroom reported. YEN.com.gh later reported that the artiste blamed the organisers' decision to merge his concert with Ghana Party in the Park for the chain of events that led to the shutdown. Against that backdrop, a homecoming show built around a message of peace gave Shatta Wale a chance to reset on familiar ground, and gave fans of both camps a moment they are still discussing.
