Director Akay Mason's new psychological thriller, No Fury , opens in Nigerian cinemas on Friday, October 23. Nollywood veterans Jim Iyke and Nse Ikpe-Etim lead the cast. BellaNaija lists it among five Nollywood films to watch in cinemas this October, and YNaija and Desauce Magazine both include it in their October guides. The story No Fury centres on a seemingly happy couple whose life begins to unravel when a hidden betrayal comes to light. BellaNaija says the betrayal sets off a chain of events that pushes their relationships and loyalties to the limit. YNaija adds that, in a bid for revenge, the wife causes chaos that threatens to tear apart her own life too. Desauce Magazine describes it as familiar territory for Nigerian cinema, but says the psychological thriller format gives the story a darker edge. "Instead of asking whether two people will fall in love, the film asks what happens when love becomes the very thing that leaves someone vulnerable," the magazine writes. The cast Jim Iyke and Nse Ikpe-Etim headline. BellaNaija lists the wider cast as Lilian Esoro, Tina Mba, Jide Awobona, Nosa Rex and Prisca Okeke, and FilmOne shared images of the two leads to promote the film. Tina Mba is having a busy month. YNaija also lists her in Phoenix Fury, out on October 30, and BellaNaija includes her in King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos. Behind the camera Mason directs. BellaNaija says he and his team are credited as writers and that Akay Mason Productions produces the film. YNaija's guide lists A Land Apart, directed by Bem Pever and starring Richard Mofe-Damijo , Daniel Etim Effiong and Princess Mufeedah, and the campus romance Tele x Zikora for the same day. Desauce adds Onibon Oje, led by Odunlade Adekola, Fathia Balogun and Kolawole Ajeyemi. Desauce notes that A Land Apart has already won Best Feature Film at the 2026 Zanzibar International Film Festival. The October box office so far The films arrive in a strong market for local titles. BellaNaija's guide also highlights Agbara Nla: The Return , the Guinness-record-setting Black Market , Kamo State's Star Lomo and the historical drama King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos, starring Femi Adebayo. Why it matters Desauce argues that October's slate shows "Nollywood is getting bolder", with films ranging from faith and politics to speculative fiction. No Fury is the month's main relationship thriller, and with two of Nollywood's most familiar faces in the leads, it is one of the higher-profile releases of the month. The same-day rivals in detail The two other October 23 openers aim at very different audiences. YNaija describes Tele x Zikora as the story of two young adults with different personalities and backgrounds who meet at a metropolitan university and find their lives increasingly intertwined. Adenike Adebayo-Esho directs, and Mike Afolarin and Genovevah Umeh star. Onibon Oje, according to Desauce, is set in an ancient Yoruba kingdom threatened by a fierce warlord. When the kingdom's peace is shattered, an unexpected warrior emerges from among ordinary townspeople to seek vengeance. The magazine sees it as part of a wider push to build cinematic worlds around Yoruba history and mythology. Elsewhere on BellaNaija's list BellaNaija's guide describes King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos as a return to 19th-century Lagos, centred on Oba Kosoko and his fight to protect his sovereignty amid external pressure and internal political rivalries. Agbara Nla: The Return gives Mount Zion Film Ministries' 1993 classic a new theatrical treatment, with Mike Bamiloye as Isawuru. What's next No Fury reaches cinemas on October 23.
