MultiChoice has rolled out its most significant DStv package overhaul in 15 years, with the new line-up taking effect from 17 September 2026, Broadcast Media Africa and Technext reported. The changes reshape entertainment, movie and sports tiers in South Africa while MultiChoice Nigeria has already refreshed its movie channels on DStv and GOtv. MultiChoice DStv Package Revamp in South Africa Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice, said the company had redesigned packages for the first time in 15 years to match how subscribers watch today. "Our focus is on giving subscribers better value and access to the entertainment and sport they love," Ngwepe said, according to Broadcast Media Africa. Flagship entertainment brands including M-Net, kykNET and Mzansi Magic move to more accessible price points under renamed packages. Starter adds 10 channels, including Wethu+, SuperSport KICKOFF and kykNET & Kie. Wethu+ combines Mzansi Bioskop, Mzansi Wethu and Mzansi Music with local stories, movies, music and selected PSL weekend fixtures. Select becomes the new home of Mzansi Magic, the PSL and DStv's full children's line-up, giving more households access to shows such as Nyala O and Inimba alongside every PSL match. Movies & Series and Sports Packages MultiChoice is also introducing Movies & Series, an entertainment-focused package with M-Net, kykNET, premium movie channels, Discovery Channel and BBC Earth, plus 10 sports channels and full PSL coverage. A dedicated Sports package offers 17 channels covering every PSL, Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, plus cricket previously limited to Premium, local rugby and action sports. Premium remains the top tier, combining Sports and Movies & Series content with Springbok and international rugby, Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis and major golf. Premium is also offered on a new 24-month contract at R799 per month inclusive of the Access Fee, Broadcast Media Africa reported. M-Net Movies+, Stars and Legends The company is refreshing its movie offer through M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends, promising a broader selection of blockbusters, faster access to new releases and fewer repeats. In Nigeria, Technext reported that those three channels replaced a previous four-channel M-Net Movies line-up on 17 September on both DStv and GOtv. M-Net Movies+ carries recent blockbusters, M-Net Stars mixes big hits with older favourites, and M-Net Legends gathers classics and newer discoveries. MultiChoice told Nigerian subscribers that some lower packages will receive certain titles up to six months earlier than before. New Channels and Auto-Migration France 24 and Church TV joined DStv from mid-September, adding English-language international news and faith programming. SuperSport Kick-Off expands football-focused linear options. Existing South African customers did not need to act: during September, Access, Family and Compact subscribers automatically moved to Starter, Select and Sports respectively. EasyView, Compact Plus and Premium customers stayed on their packages but can switch. The launch sits alongside the DStv Expect+ campaign and a refreshed visual identity. MultiChoice, CANAL+ and African Streaming Competition MultiChoice said its relationship with CANAL+, now parent of MultiChoice Group, supports stronger content partnerships and African storytelling investment. Nomsa Philiso, EVP Content at CANAL+ Africa, said CANAL+ shares MultiChoice's commitment to African production and global distribution of African content. After Showmax's shutdown in key markets, the revamp is also a retention play against Netflix, free ad-supported apps and other streamers competing for African living rooms from Lagos to Johannesburg. What Entzopedia Is Watching Entzopedia covers MultiChoice because DStv and GOtv still decide how Nollywood, Hollywood and live sport reach millions of African households. Full Nigerian package maps and pricing were still pending when Technext published, so later filings may refine which tiers carry which channels. Readers can follow related company context on Entzopedia's MultiChoice Group profile at https://entzopedia.com/company/multichoice-group. How Nigerian Subscribers Are Affected So Far Technext noted that MultiChoice Nigeria has not yet published the full package-by-package channel map for the next phase of changes, only that further package updates are planned in the coming months. Until those details land, Nigerian DStv and GOtv customers can use the new movie channels and SuperSport Kick-Off where available, while waiting for clarity on which tiers carry France 24 and how pricing may shift. Entzopedia will update this story when MultiChoice Nigeria publishes the completed package tables. Sources: Broadcast Media Africa · Technext
