David Guetta has made DJ Mag history. The French DJ was crowned the World's No. 1 DJ in the magazine's Top 100 DJs poll for 2026, becoming the first artist to win the title six times. There was good news for South Africa too. Black Coffee climbed to No. 14, and Shimza entered the poll for the first time. A record sixth win Guetta first took the title in 2011 and also won in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2025. The sixth win moves him ahead of Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren, who have five each. He was crowned live at [UNVRS] in Ibiza, where he played a two-hour headline set. "It's the first time I didn't have a summer pop hit, but it was still the biggest summer I've ever had," he told DJ Mag. His Ibiza residencies sold out faster than ever, which he called a point of pride in the age of AI, when "everything can be faked, but the one thing you cannot fake is selling tickets". His 2026 included three sold-out Stade de France shows with more than 240,000 tickets sold, and guests including Black Coffee, Jennifer Lopez and Akon. He also joined Andrea Bocelli, Megan Thee Stallion and EJAE on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem, "DNA (More Than A Game)". In summer 2027 he will bring his live show to London's O2. Each of your votes means the world to me; your continued support makes this journey special in every way," he wrote on X on October 7. DJ Mag credits his deep connection to his roots. In 2026 he held the second edition of his three-day Black Coffee Weekender in Cape Town, bringing peers such as Peggy Gou to his home turf, and a third edition is planned for 2027. Front Page also points to his record-breaking O2 Arena show with an orchestra in May. South African fans responded with pride; one called him "the Black child's hope". Shimza breaks through Shimza, the Tembisa-born Afro-tech DJ, enters the poll at No. 75, Front Page reports. DJ Mag lists him among this year's new entries. The magazine says his profile has "absolutely soared in the past 12 months", helped by his Shimza & Co event series in Ibiza and a Song of the Year win at the Miami Electronic Dance Awards for "Fire Fire". In June he released the Sunset in Pretoria EP. Swiss-South African deep house producer Nora En Pure placed at No. 73, down 15 places from last year. A shift towards house and techno DJ Mag calls 2026 a watershed year for house and techno in the poll. Charlotte de Witte rose to No. 6 and kept her title as World's No. 1 Techno DJ, and FISHER was again named World's No. 1 House DJ. Fred again.. jumped 17 places to No. 16. John Summit, Mau P and CHRIS STASSY each rose 22 places to share the Highest Climber title, and Josh Baker was the Highest New Entry at No. 40. Votes came from a record 234 territories. DJ Mag says South Africa, Algeria and Morocco led voting in Africa. It is the latest sign of the global reach of South African dance music, from Afro-house to amapiano , the sound behind the rise of acts such as Tyla . What's next DJ Mag is again working with Bridges for Music and has invited every artist in the poll to sponsor at least one young person at the Bridges for Music Academy in Langa, South Africa.
