18th Headies Toronto Finale Moves to April 2027

The Headies , Nigeria's biggest music awards, has moved the Toronto finale of its 18th edition to April 10 and 11, 2027. The ceremony had been scheduled for October 23, 2026. Organisers say they are expanding the programme across Nigeria and Canada, adding a Global Trade and Investment Summit alongside the awards. The announcement, dated October 8 and published on the Headies website on October 10, keeps the edition's theme, "Africa to the World". What is changing Under the new plan, the April finale will combine the awards with the Headies Global Trade and Investment Summit. The summit is designed to connect African businesses, investors, government representatives and creative-industry leaders with international markets, capital and strategic partners. The organisers say "Road to The Headies" activities will still take place during the originally scheduled period, with workshops, seminars and industry sessions connecting artists, nominees and stakeholders. A confirmed calendar, venues and participation details will be announced through official channels. An apology to guests Headies founder Ayo Animashaun acknowledged that the move affects guests who had already made travel plans. "We recognise the inconvenience this change causes, particularly for guests who have committed time and resources to joining us in Toronto," he said. "We sincerely apologise and appreciate their patience." He added: "Our responsibility now is to communicate clearly, provide practical information to those affected and deliver the programme we have committed to on a larger scale than ever." Explaining the broader vision, he said the awards were created "to recognise the talent and work driving our music industry," and that this edition aims to bring "the people creating the music into closer conversation with those who can support its growth." The road to Toronto The Toronto edition marks the Headies' expansion into Canada after previous international editions in Atlanta.
